A room filled with countless points of light, each one contributing to a large moving image that surrounds and envelops you
Ocean of Light is the latest audiovisual installation to emerge from Squidsoup's explorations into immersive, dynamic, interactive audiovisual spaces.
Sounds inhabit physical space. Visible and audible as they encircle and fly around the room, they dance with each other and together create what is both a fully three dimensional audiovisual environment and a musical composition.
Ocean of Light (Series 1) is at the confluence of several initiatives. A research project in its own right, Ocean of Light is exploring the creative and immersive possibilities of light-based visualisation in three physical dimensions.
The project is a collaboration, supported by the Technology Strategy Board (UK); partners include Squidsoup, Excled Ltd and De Montfort University, with additional research support from Oslo School of Architecture and Design (Norway), Massey University, Wellington (New Zealand) and Centre for Electronic Media Art, Monash University (Aus).
Squidsoup is a digital arts group specialising in immersive interactive installations within physical 3D space. Their work combines sound, light, physical space and virtual worlds to produce immersive and emotive headspaces. They explore the modes and effects of interactivity, looking to make digital experiences where meaningful and creative interaction can occur.
